  • If you have a Universal Analytics property, you must migrate. The earlier you migrate, the more historical data and insights you will have in Google Analytics 4.

  • Your GA4 account will contain the required data just 24 hours after you've installed the tag, it doesn't guarantee that you're all set. Since UA & GA4 have different metrics and tracking methods, you need to make sure everything is set up correctly.

  • UA highlights Total Users in most reports, whereas GA4 focuses on Active Users. So, while the term Users appears the same, the calculation for this metric is different between UA and GA4 since UA is using Total Users and GA4 is using Active Users.

  • Analytics creates a single user journey from all the data associated with the same user ID. Unlike UA, a GA4 property incorporates User ID natively across all reporting, analysis, and insights and does not require a separate User-ID reporting view.

  • Similar to Universal Analytics, Google Analytics 4 is a free property type. There are no costs associated with using one (or more) GA4 properties on your account.

  • In the case of Universal Analytics (standard), there is a hit limit of 10 million per month per account. However, Google Analytics 4 has no hit limits.

  • GA4 is promoted as privacy-centric and has been designed to work with or without cookies. By leveraging machine learning and statistical modeling, GA4 can fill in data gaps as the world becomes less and less dependent on cookies.
